‘#Dolomiti2040, Idee e proposte per il futuro' is the title of the participatory process started in Spring 2015 by the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation with a view to drawing up the Overall strategy for the management of the Dolomites and the Strategy for sustainable tourism. This was a fundamental step towards a shared governance of this World Heritage Site. Conceived in Autumn 2014, the participatory process was divided into 11 meetings, held between May and June 2015 in several venues, located in various geographical areas in the Dolomites, and organised in such a way as to allow the different stakeholders of this World Heritage Site to meet. The participatory process, which produced discussions, documents and different types of materials (reports, summaries, videos, presentations, etc.), involved public (administrations, institutions, etc.), collective (splendid communities, rules, civic uses, etc.) and private stakeholders (categories, associations, consortia, etc.) thus ensuring a statistically estimated representation of over 15,000 people.

Motivazione della Giuria

Long and challenging process started by the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation (FD4U) with a view to drawing up the Overall strategy for the management of the Dolomites as WHS and the Strategy for sustainable development, a fundamental step towards a shared governance of this World Heritage Site. The process comprised 11 meetings held to allow opinion leaders, stakeholders and individual citizens to meet and discuss ‘tourism and accommodation', ‘mobility and Dolomite passes' and ‘carrying capacity'. A commendable initiative in terms of engagement and participation, chosen also because of the spirit of inter-institutional understanding that characterises the work of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation.
