Natural stone terraces define the cultivated landscape north of Bressanone, in the Isarco Valley. It is precisely in this landscape that the new home of a young wine grower was conceived. The new building takes inspiration from the vineyard landscape that extends above the Novacella abbey. Indeed, the construction presents itself as an evolution of the cultivated land, is born from the earth and follows the terrain morphology by extending the vineyard terraces with its hollows and natural stone walls. Two walls made of two different materials, one of stone to evoke the vineyard terraces, and the other in dark-coloured concrete to recall the colour of grapes, define the house together with a green covering that prolongs the grass-covered terraces. These architectural elements create an interesting duality between landscape and architecture, generating continuity yet at the same time clearly defining the independence of the building and its living spaces. Wide spaces, large windows and cosy areas interpret the close relationship between architecture and landscape, structuring the dual nature of the project that takes shape in the balance between the continuity with the elements, the features of the setting, and the independence and distinctiveness of the building.

Motivazione della Giuria

The building rises in an area characterised by hillside farming, mostly vineyards, and traditional stone terraces. The project took inspiration from these two elements creating a building with a markedly horizontal plan that evokes the bold lines of the agricultural landscape wherein it is integrated. The relationship between the two sections of the building, with the lower part coated in stone and the residential area characterised by contemporary shapes and materials, creates a whole that fits perfectly into the landscape.
