The design of a public space is strategically important at a time when town centres are
becoming increasingly depopulated and meeting places are losing their significance.
Drafting a document able to coordinate public space interventions in the long term, allows for actions based on a comprehensive and consistent reading of the territory.
The aim of the master plan is to seize the opportunity created by the recent merger of the municipalities to carry out an integrated urban and spatial planning, able to give priority to the quality of public spaces. Following the merger of the municipalities, this tool becomes even more strategic as it allows for the implementation of actions based on a comprehensive and consistent reading of the territory. A territory that, except for the peculiarities of its different urban clusters, is founded on a close network of relations that deserve being understood and enhanced at a global level rather than in a fragmented or incomplete manner. The initiative, which resulted from the collaboration amongst young professionals, constitutes a common framework to guide the interventions carried out to increase the quality of public spaces.

Motivazione della Giuria

The Jury commends the decision of the municipal administration to draft an analysis and planning document useful to support in a conscious manner the initiatives for the qualification of public spaces. The approach of the study, although not free from risk of homogenisation of architectural choices, calls attention to non-built areas that strongly characterise urban spaces, the management and transformation of which often seem governed by random and sporadic decisions.
