Joan Nogué

 

Joan Nogué is a professor of Human Geography at the University of Girona and director of the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia (www.catpaisatge.net). He received his PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and continued his studies as the University of Wisconsin in Madison (USA) under the direction of Professor Yi-Fu Tuan. He has been ‘adjunct professor’ at the University of Western Ontario (Canada) and a visiting professor at various European and American universities. His two lines of research are geographic and spatial thinking and landscape intervention. He has published many books on both subjects and has published many articles in prestigious international journals. Some of these books include: La Ciutat. Visions, anàlisis i reptes (1998); Nacionalismo y territorio (1998, translated into Chinese in 2009); España en Marruecos (1912-1956). Discursos geográficos e intervención territorial (1999), co-authored with José Luis Villanova; Geopolítica, identidad y globalización (2001, translated into Brazilian Portuguese in 2004 and written in collaboration with Joan Vicente; Las ‘otras’ geografías (2006, in collaboration with Joan Romero); La construcción social del paisaje (2007, ed.); El paisaje en la cultura contemporánea (2008, ed.); Entre paisajes (2009, translated into Italian for the publishing house FrancoAngeli under the title Altri Paesaggi, 2010), among many others. He has coordinated and edited the translation into Spanish of John B. Jackson’s book Discovering the Vernacular Landscape (2010), as well as Eric Dardel’s L’Homme et la terre. Nature de la réalité géographique (2013) and Yi-Fu Tuan’s Romantic Geography: In Search of the Sublime Landscape (2015). For many years, he was co-director of the journal Documents d’Anàlisi Geogràfica and he is currently the co-director of the new book collection “Paisaje y Teoría” published by Biblioteca Nueva. He was awarded the Rei Jaume I Prize for “Urbanism, Landscape and Sustainability” in 2009 and the “Joan Fuster” Essay Prize for the book Paisatge, territori i societat civil (2010). He is a member of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans and sits on the Board of Directors of the Agency for Quality in the University System of Catalonia (AQU).

Benedetta Castiglioni

Benedetta Castiglioni is Associate Professor at the Department of Historical and Geographic Sciences and the Ancient World of University of Padova (Italy). Her researches on landscape focuses on the relationship between people and landscape, questioning social perceptions, attribution of values, education and awareness raising, heritage contruction. She is representative for her University in the Uniscape network and she is member of the Regional Landscape Observatory’s Scientific Committee of Veneto. She recently published “Paesaggio e Osservatori locali. L’esperienza del Canale di Brenta” (with Mauro Varotto, 2013) and “Landscape as mediator, landscape as commons. International perspectives on landscape research” (edited with Fabio Parascandolo and Marcello Tanca, 2015).

Antonio De Rossi

Architect. Professor at the DAD-Department of Architecture and Design and Director of the “Mountain Architecture Institute at the Politecnico di Torino (Italy). He was awared “the Mario Rigoni Stern prize for Multi-Language Literature in the Alps for his book “The construction of the Alps”.
